Healthy Thoughts Blog

We want to take an opportunity to recognize those who have lost 25 pounds, 50 pounds, 75 pounds and 100 pounds. While we celebrate all levels of weight loss and fitness achievements, we want to bring attention to those who have really hit some exciting benchmarks! This has resulted not only in the obvious change in appearance but as you read the essays you’ll see that their lives overall have been changed; physically, mentally and in some case medically.  We thought you might also enjoy seeing their before and after pictures too! What an inspiration they are to us!!

Franks Bio ......

I have struggled with my weight for quite a while.

We all know that the key to living a healthy lifestyle is to eat right and exercise.  Easy, right?  Wrong!  That is what I thought for years, is sounds easy, but it really is difficult.

Some friends of ours from Stonington were losing weight.  When we talked to them and found out that they had joined Lifestyles Fitness and therefore had a personal trainer and a nutritional counselor, we began thinking very seriously about what we needed to do to get healthy and live a healthy lifestyle.  We have had a gym membership for years and rarely used it.

I have played basketball with my son for years, and as he has grown and became quicker and faster, I realized that I was out of shape and could no longer keep up with him.  That hit me pretty hard.

Since joining Lifestyles in February of 2009, I still can't quite keep up with him, but I can get up and down the basketball court much easier.
I couldn't do this without the support of my family.  The kids help keep me motivated and focused and my wife Mary does the shopping and meal preparation, and that is a big factor. This has been a team effort.

Eric and Jen have stressed upon me what I already knew, if you eat right and exercise, you will become healthy.  Easy, right?  Well, it is now.

I used to think that I didn't have time to workout every day.  I made time.  I also used to think that if you exercised every day, you could eat what you wanted because you would burn it off.  I read the book "Eating For Life" and realized that food that you put into your body really has a huge effect on the condition of your health.

I want to thank Eric for the training he provides and Jen for the nutritional advice, and both of them for the motivation.

Every morning on my way to Lifestyles, I drive by that gym that we belonged to for years, knowing that if I were trying to do this on my own, I would still be home in bed.

I really enjoy what I am doing and it has made me feel absolutely terrific!!  The only down side of this is, that now I have to go out and buy some new clothes.

Workout every day and keep a food log.  Easy, right?  Yes it is.

I am 100 % an emotional eater.  If I have a bad day or something stressful would happen in my life, I ate for comfort.  Over the last several years, I have had some health issues.  Each time I would visit with a doctor the same concerns would be brought up.  I would be told, “losing weight would be so beneficial for your….” Whatever the case was, I was being told I NEEDED to lose weight and develop a healthier lifestyle.

Since my sister encouraged me to go meet Eric and Jenn, I have found several new ways to control my emotional eating.  I have replaced the eating with exercise.  It is a great stress reliever.  It is also AMAZING how much energy I have since only losing 25 lbs.

My life is extremely busy with work and family but I am now making it a priority to put my health, both diet and exercise first.  If we are planning a visit to a relative out of town or a trip to the mall; I plan for the day by taking my snacks,  and making sure we have a cooler with drinks and we always know where we will eat and if it doesn’t work for me, then I take my own food.

Doing this has made me all around enjoy more of my life.  By having more energy I am able to do more things like keep up with my 4 year old son and enjoy the outdoors a lot more.

Don’t give up if you have a set back!  Start back in immediately being good to your body.  Taking better care of your physical self makes a person healthier all around.  I am trying to keep my goals small and attainable so I don’t get discouraged.  You only have one body and how you treat it depends on how long you get to use it for the things you love to do.
